🎧 Ear Training Workshop ONLINE

🕒 Duration: 2 hours – 9AM to 11 AM IST on January 18th 2026.

A unique online workshop to train the ear to identify notes and intervals and build the foundation towards being able to identify chords and ragas accurately — the approach will be a blend of Indian swaras with Western tonal concepts.

The whole workshop will be recorded and the recordings will be shared with all the participants.

PART 1: Introduction & Mindset 

• Brief intro: what ear training really means

• Busting Myths about “having a good ear” — it’s a trainable skill

• The 3 pillars of ear training: Pitch, Interval, and Context

PART 2: Pitch Awareness & Swara Mapping 

• Identifying Sa (reference pitch) in any song

• Exercise: Finding Sa–Pa–Sa on reference tracks

• Relative pitch — hearing and reproducing intervals

• Linking Indian swaras to Western intervals

PART 3: Intervals & Melodic Patterns

• Recognizing ascending and descending intervals

• Interval “anchors”

• Singing exercises

• Interactive exercise using a virtual piano or backing track

PART 4: Stepping Stones to Chords & Harmony Awareness, Raga Identification

• Concept of harmony and vertical hearing

• Identifying chord types by ear: Major, Minor, Suspended

• Relating to Indian context – Raga Identification – It’s so much more!

PART 5: Wrap-Up & Practice Plan

• How to continue ear training daily (Tools, practice plan)
